A history teacher will work with fellow teachers and staff to develop and implement an innovative curriculum to EPIC’s eleventh grade class. All teachers and staff receive extensive professional development and ongoing support in the Expeditionary Learning model. “Learning Expeditions” are in-depth, cross-curricular studies that are project-based, incorporate fieldwork and are relevant in students’ lives. Expeditions are the primary way of organizing the curriculum and address college readiness standards.
Qualifications
· Bachelors Degree
· Illinois Teaching Certificate and NCLB Highly Qualified status in subject area
· Prior urban teaching experience is desirable
· Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents, and community members
· Must commit to attending all summer professional development in July and August
Job Description & Responsibilities
· Use data to teach until students learn to ensure acquisition of content knowledge and skills
· Create a safe and organized classroom environment in a block schedule structure (85 minute classes)
· Design and implement curriculum that meets state and college readiness standards and incorporates hands-on activities to ensure effective and efficient instruction
· Continuously improve teaching practice through reflection and collaboration with colleagues and coaches
· Deploy a variety of instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners
· Effectively plan and execute lessons that build daily work into long term, impressive student products
· Teach reading as each subject area requires students to learn from written materials and various types of texts
· Oversee a Mikva Challenge Action Project or Intervention class twice a week
· Serve as parent liaison for 17 crew students
· Attend and participate in professional development, freshmen retreat, open houses, parent conferences, one school improvement committee, and other school functions
· Display professionalism at all times as a role model for the students and guardian of school mission, core values, and culture
· Deliver reports and paperwork critical to tracking student performance and school compliance with high levels of organization
