Fresh Thinking about Student Achievement: Supporting Success for All Students in Expeditionary Learning Schools

Our 2011 National Conference will highlight the classroom practices and school structures that support achievement and high expectations for all students in EL schools. Success in EL schools includes high achievement on state tests and graduation rates, but success is also defined by:

  • Habits of scholarship and character
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity
  • High standards for the quality of student work

Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson will open the conference as our keynote speaker.  A renowned international expert in differentiation in mixed ability classrooms, Dr. Tomlinson is the Chair of Educational Leadership, Foundations and Policy at the University of Virginia and also serves as the Co-Director of the University’s Institutes on Academic Diversity. She has authored over two hundred articles, books, and other professional development materials, and her work has been translated into twelve languages.

The 2011 National Conference will be an opportunity to explore the issues of differentiation in EL classrooms, showcase effective practices, tackle tough questions, and collaborate with EL colleagues from across the country.
