| 0

February 2nd, 2011 -- 8:15am to 3:15pm

@the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School located at 511 W 182nd Street

Something exciting is happening at the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS). Students are conducting their own parent-teacher conferences. Brett Kimmel, Principal at WHEELS, and his school community are on the forefront of this innovative, research proven approach to strengthening the home school communication channel.

Student Led Conferences are a powerful structure that promote accountability, family relationships, academically rigorous student work, clear learning targets to support standards-based grading, and Crew (advisory) leader & teacher collaboration. Please join us on February 2nd to learn more about and observe this structure in action at WHEELS.

In collaboration with the NYC affiliate of ASCD, WHEELS is offering an opportunity for school leaders and other staff development experts to experience Student Led Conferences (SLC) in action and see why they are gaining ground at schools nationwide.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

8:15—9:00  Breakfast

9:00—9:30  Opening and Welcome

9:30—11:30 Workshop Presentation

11:30—12:15 Lunch w/ WHEELS’ Jazz Ensemble

12:15— 1:45 Student Led Conferences in Action
