It isn’t at all unusual to see a group of fourth-graders from City View Charter School exploring an historic building in downtown Hillsboro.

That could happen almost any weekday, because the seven-year-old private school, based on an “expeditionary learning” model, encourages its pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade to learn by doing.

It’s all about transformational change in service of excellent education for all children.  That’s the premise of Wendy Kopp’s new book, A Chance to Make History.  Kopp, founder and CEO of Teach for America, packed its 200 pages with powerful lessons, anecdotes and principles for transforming the educational system at every level.

Located in Rochester, NY on the campus of the Rochester Museum, this K-6 school has had a tremendous impact on the city of Rochester and the EL community.
