It isn’t at all unusual to see a group of fourth-graders from City View Charter School exploring an historic building in downtown Hillsboro.

That could happen almost any weekday, because the seven-year-old private school, based on an “expeditionary learning” model, encourages its pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade to learn by doing.

4th Graders from Springville K-8 help restore a local wetland

In a project that earned teacher Brian Torres a Disney Planet Challenge Award for $1,000, students from Springville K-8 cleared the site of garbage; planted more than 300 new plants, trees, and shrubs; and tested the water quailty.
