PRESCOTT - Wednesday evening, 15-year-old Brenna Sullivan stepped up to a microphone at the Raven Café and played a haunting, mournful, self-composed song on an erhu (pronounced "Arr-who"), a two-string Chinese violin.

"It was amazing, the different sounds she could make," said Carisa Miner, 22, who was visiting Prescott from Tempe. "It was actually rhythmic. She was awesome."

Sullivan and her 15 classmates from Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy performed their "East Meets West" concert as the culmination of a two-week intensive study into Eastern music, particularly Indonesian, Cambodian and Brazilian traditional songs.
