Codman Academy, an EL Mentor School, returns strong results on MCAS

The results of the 2011 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests are in, and Codman Academy made some extraordinary gains. The Student Growth Percentile (SGP) aspect of the MCAS scores measures how much difference it makes that a student attended a particular school, and whether a school "adds value" regardless of where the student is academically upon arrival by lottery.

Expeditionary Learning launches EL Commons at national conference

EL Commons, the new, secure part of the Expeditionary Learning website, was just launched, and is now open to all EL network schools and staff. For years, members of our network have been clamoring for better access to EL resources, better planning tools and the ability to discuss and share ideas and practices. In response, we have built EL Commons around three tools:

Portland Schools Superintendent James Morse singles out King and Casco Bay as models.

Leading educators are using King Middle School and Casco Bay High School as models for schools throughout the country.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited King two weeks ago to see how an urban school achieves success. The stars of the show were King teachers, who brought home to a round-table discussion real practices that impressed Duncan and the many state and regional dignitaries present.
